  • The Roosevelt Arch is made of columnar basalt.  President Roosevelt laid the cornerstone and dedicated the arch in April of 1903.  I wanted to see or even drive thru this gate but he area was under construction at the time.  so I had to settle for taking pictures.  The top placard contains some of the word from the Act of Congress that Created the Park.  “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people”.  The other two placards contain the name of the park and the date of it’s creation.
